I first got involved in tarot waaaaaay back when I was in my early teens – I remember feeling so proud of my beautiful deck of Tarot Cards and I kept them wrapped in silk, snuggled inside a wooden box. To this day, I don’t know what happened to that Tarot deck, but fast forward to my late 20’s and I found my way back to Tarot again. 

For a couple of years, I really enjoyed reading other peoples Tarot interpretations. For some reason, I just wasn’t ready to get my own deck. I loved reading all about the Tarot meanings, and ordered readings online…

I remember in one reading I had, right at the end of 2013, the Tarot reader mentioned that I had Empress energy in my card… She said it was a very fertile time for me. Just a couple of months after I received that reading, my baby Daughter Isla was on the way! 

Fast forward to September of the following year in 2015, I knew it was time for me to purchase my first pack. I don’t buy into that ‘wait until you’re gifted a pack by someone else’ thing! So I found a gorgeous indie tarot card stockist, and purchased my very first deck – The Wild Unknown Tarot by Kim Krans.

It felt so exciting when I received the Tarot deck and guidebook in the post – I just couldn’t wait to get to grips with it, to do readings for myself, to sit down on my bed, in the quiet and just… connect.

And that was the beginning of my story – it’s been a Tarot love affair ever since! I now own a small number of Tarot and Oracle decks from some incredible artists who really resonate with me – where I really feel the magic woven into their illustrations – and where I feel the poetry and wisdom in their guide books.

I feel very particular about the Decks I use – I really do need to FEEL that connection. I remember I ordered one pack once, it arrived through the post and I looked at it warily. I went through the pack, looking at the images, tucked the cards back into the pack and promptly threw it away in the bin – I didn’t even want to give it away, as it felt wrong on some level to me!

So the packs that line my bookshelf in my office have really, truley made the grade. I adore them – and I always feel a pull to one particular pack or another when I do my readings – I do know when certain cards want to make themselves known!
